Agusan del Norte is situated in Mindanao's western section of Caraga. It is bordered on the northwest by the Butuan Bay; northeast by Surigao del Norte; mid-east by Surigao del Sur; southeast by Agusan del Sur, and southwest by Misamis Oriental. Agusan del Norte has a total land area of 2,730.24 square kilometres or 1,054.15 square miles. When Butuan is included for geographical purposes, the province's land area is 3,546.86 square kilometres (1,369.45 sq mi).


Carmen is strategically located in the Western Agusan Corridor. It is bounded on the north by the Butuan Bay, south by Buenavista, east by Nasipit and west by Misamis Oriental. Its rolling hills are planted with different kinds of orchard, where some 500 hectares (1,200 acres) are devoted solely to mango plantations. About half of these are fully developed and are already producing sweet mango fruits which are being sold in volume in Cebu and Manila and to neighboring municipalities and Butuan City.

Caloc‑an is a barangay in the municipality of Magallanes, in the province of Agusan del Norte. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 5,298. This represented 23.77% of the total population of Magallanes. The household population of Caloc-an in the 2015 Census was 4,369 broken down into 906 households or an average of 4.82 members per household. Caloc‑an is situated at approximately 9.0486, 125.5297, in the island of Mindanao. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 6.7 meters or 22.0 feet above mean sea level.
